“I swear it, with hand on heart: one day we will start our own business.” At the age of 12, Louis-Philippe Broze and Florian De Boeck were already dreaming of entrepreneurship. In August 2016, that dream finally came true. The initiators had no experience in the medical world (yet), but they did have experience with technology and entrepreneurship. Second part of the dream: to start a company with a positive social impact. Enter: Spentys!

“The healthcare sector piqued our interest, because of its unique potential. In addition, our innovations and solutions are very patient-oriented, aimed at making a difference in the daily life of the patient.”

Spentys & hub.brussels: step by step

The next step after founding the company: convince the lifetech sector of their unique solutions and products. To make that happen, Spentys found affiliation with the MedTech Accelerator of lifetech.brussels – the cluster organization of hub.brussels that’s dedicated to medical technology.

The lifetech.brussels team of hub.brussels:

  • Supported Florian and Louis-Philippe with 6 months of practical workshops and personal coaching, through the MedTech Accelerator.
  • Provided an extension of Spentys’ trajectory, with customized guidance.
  • Organized meetings and company visits within the Brussels lifetech sector.
  • Provided contacts with regional partners and investors, such as Innoviris and finance&invest.brussels.
  • Introduced the company to a Brussels network of companies, academics, experts, etc.
  • Encouraged Spentys to participate in the 2019 hub awards, where they snatched the top prize in the ‘START’ category.

The international network of hub.brussels:

  • Supported Spentys in its international prospecting and development. Particularly in Poland, Canada, New York and – more recently – the United Arab Emirates
  • Encouraged the company to participate in Arab Health (Dubai), one of the largest medical technology trade shows. For the business owners, it was an excellent opportunity to meet numerous MedTech players in the region.
  • Invited Spentys to start a collaboration with ZHO (see article below) in the presence of Pascal Smet (Brussels State Secretary). This took place in the prestigious setting of the Belgian Pavilion at EXPO 2020 in Dubai.

Spentys tells the unique story of two young, incredibly creative and talented entrepreneurs. They invested all their skills and energy in innovative solutions, to improve the quality of life of patients. Right from the beginning, Spentys could count on a dynamic and diverse network that strongly believed in them. This invaluable network provided the necessary support and guidance for their growth – both local and abroad. To be continued, without a doubt!

Spentys: a hands-down victory abroad

After several capital rounds in 2019 and 2020, Spentys started producing orthopedic arch supports. Currently, Spentys successfully helps patients with recovery and rehabilitation in Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

During the corona crisis, Spentys also went to work on 3D-printing of protective materials for healthcare personnel, supplemented by devices for patient respiration. This illustrates the company’s strong solution-oriented hands-on approach.

Taking on new challenges? That’s in the company’s DNA! With this said, Spentys has also developed a solution for urgent cases, such as complex fractures. This allows doctors to get straight to work printing medical devices, perfectly tailored to the patient.

Recently, the company signed a partnership with the Zayed Higher Organization for People with Determination (ZHO) in Dubai, an organization that focuses on people with disabilities. After a three-month pilot project, the organization chose Spentys as its official partner for the production of support bandages in the United Arab Emirates.

And now? The sky is the limit! But with both feet on the ground. Step by step towards a better world – and one with more mobility…by helping patients around the globe!
