Budget cuts: hub.brussels adapts its international support services
The reduction in the budget allocated to our Agency is leading to a significant transformation of our offer, particularly in terms of international activities. A reallocation of resources is planned in the short, medium and long term, with a focus on activities that generate the greatest added value for Brussels-based businesses.
As part of the Brussels-Capital Region’s budgetary decisions, the regional government has chosen to rationalise the Agency’s resources, including a reduction in its international actions and its network of offices abroad.
The international offices of hub.brussels play several key roles in supporting the international development of Brussels companies: identifying opportunities, connecting businesses with reliable partners, helping them understand local realities, and more. Some offices also support companies from Belgium’s two other regions.
A more focused international presence
Of the 33 Brussels offices currently operating abroad, 21 locations will be maintained.
- Offices maintained: Berlin, Dakar, Istanbul, Kinshasa, London, Madrid, Montreal, Nairobi, New York, Paris, Mumbai, Rabat, Stockholm, Tel Aviv / Ramallah, São Paulo, Tokyo and Warsaw. The Singapore office will be relocated to Kuala Lumpur.
- Markets to be managed from Brussels: The Hague, Lille, Luxembourg.
- Offices that will cease operations by the end of the year: Abu Dhabi, Barcelona, Belgrade, Copenhagen, Geneva, Hanoi, Havana, Milan, Montevideo, San Francisco, Shanghai and Vancouver.
The closure dates and practical arrangements for these offices are currently under review and will be communicated at a later stage.
What hub.brussels will continue to offer
hub.brussels is working to minimise the impact of these budget adjustments on Brussels businesses. The 2026 action plan has therefore been refocused. A core set of activities considered essential has also been preserved for 2027:
- International trade fairs exclusively in Europe: Vivatech, Slush, 4YFN, ISM, PLMA, SIAL, Anuga, MIPIM, Bedex
- Economic missions focused on B2B meetings
- Reinforced individual support, particularly for first-time exporters
- Sector-specific roundtables to prepare future targeted initiatives
Actions will increasingly focus on Europe, with a dual objective: offering more accessible formats for companies and maximising economic impact. We have also ensured a sectoral balance in order to continue supporting the key industries of the Brussels economy.
Our commitment remains unchanged
In this context, hub.brussels continues to fulfil its public service mission by prioritising high value-added initiatives, direct market contacts and support tailored to the needs of each company.
The expertise of our teams remains fully mobilised. Do not hesitate to make use of our services!
