Casablanco wins the 2025 Social Economy Prize
On Tuesday 4 November, the Social Economy Prize ceremony took place.
For over 30 years, this award – granted by the non-profit Roger Vanthournout, with the support of several social economy stakeholders including hub.brussels – has honoured Brussels and Walloon businesses for their innovative business models, social mission and democratic governance.
Four prizes are awarded during the ceremony:
the Brussels Prize, the Walloon Prize, the Public Prize and the Inspiration Prize.
This year, Casablanco won the Brussels Prize.
The 3 Brussels nominees
Three organisations proudly flew the Brussels flag in this 2025 edition of the Social Economy Prize.
Casablanco, the winner, is a non-profit active in the building renovation sector. It works to support the socio-professional integration of those furthest from the labour market, while improving the living environment in disadvantaged Brussels neighbourhoods.
Refoodgees combines gastronomy and social engagement. The project runs a restaurant and catering service offering cuisines from around the world, led by people with refugee backgrounds. It aims to support integration and foster cultural exchange.
Oxfam is widely known for its second-hand shops. In Brussels, the organisation continues to boost employment integration through its shops and logistics platforms, and is evolving its business models towards greater circularity – in line with the goals of the economic transition.
All three projects share a common ambition: to put the economy at the service of people and social cohesion. They showcase the richness and diversity of Brussels’ entrepreneurial landscape.
The project leaders were all supported by our teams, each in their own way.
