MedTech Accelerator 2024: the results

This year once again, hub.brussels and its lifetech.brussels cluster fully committed themselves to supporting innovative ideas in the medical technologies sector. For six months, a group of emerging startups was coached and guided in order to transform their concept into a concrete solution.  The culmination of the programme, on 10 October, was a pitch session before a jury during which Breeze Medical and Fluent Robotics were singled out, one with the jury statuette and the other with the audience award.

Through their participation in the MedTech Accelerator programme, young companies reduce the risks relating to technological development and market launch. The programme helps them to meet the challenges of strict regulations, clinical validation and financing. The accelerator also provides practical advice on defining market needs and structuring teams, which considerably increases the prospects for success. With over 20 workshops and personalised coaching sessions, the participants receive the tools necessary to transform their concept into a successful innovation that is ready for market.

7 projects, 2 winners

The ninth edition of the acceleration programme supported seven projects:

BREASTPRESSO: development of a “no-touch” solution for the handling of breast prostheses, which improves safety and reduces complications.

FLUENT ROBOTICS: provides robotic solutions for the remote treatment of ischaemic strokes.

KARMA: AI-based platform that analyses joint movements for more effective diagnosis of musculoskeletal disorders.

PAD FLOW: uses 4D-CT imaging to assess blood circulation in diabetic foot ulcers, in order to reduce amputations.

TOMO TISSUE: innovative 3D histology solution for accurate tissue analysis and enhanced diagnosis.

UNVEIL SURGICAL: enhanced precision of surgical image guidance through reusable tools that are more environmentally friendly.

BREEZE MEDICAL: development of intraoral mirrors to enhance documentation and collaboration in the field of oral care.

Brussels: fertile ground

Brussels is increasingly positioning itself as a key innovation actor in the life sciences sector in Europe, thanks to the efforts of hub.brussels and its lifetech.brussels cluster. The technical, scientific and hospital sector potential of the Brussels-Capital Region, with its high concentration of leading academic institutions and research centres, is central to this process. The MedTech accelerator is a valuable tool for bringing innovative solutions to market and contributing to maintaining our leading position, but above all for improving the quality of health care for the people of Brussels.
