THE SKATEROOM
In Anno 2023, business is no longer just about making a profit. The financial health of a company is certainly important, but its environmental and social impact is just as important today. And hub.brussels is actively engaged in this path, helping to build impactful stories such as that of The Skateroom, one of the first B-corp certified companies in Brussels... and an example in terms of CSR.
Magritte, Paul McCarthy, Andy Warhol & Van Gogh, no artist is too big for Charles-Antoine Bodson, founder of THE SKATEROOM. His startup prints skateboards with world-renowned artworks and sells them online to skaters and art lovers worldwide.
Proud owners of these artful boards contribute to a better world through their purchase. Because THE SKATEROOM donates about 10% of its sales to social projects that facilitate access to quality education for children in the developing world.
Tie your (skate) shoes and tear with us over the heights and lows of its professional track.
From serial entrepreneur to social entrepreneur
In an earlier life, Charles-Antoine was what is called a serial entrepreneur. As co-founder of Belgian gift card giant Bongo or as a gallery owner, he went wherever his passion for culture took him.
It was only when he met the founder of Skateistan that the social entrepreneur in him was born. He decided to sell his art collection and use the proceeds to support this NGO that teaches children in the developing world how to skate and gives them access to schooling. He was looking for a way to continue supporting this organisation structurally and THE SKATEROOM was born.
Drop in with hub.brussels
To get its message across, in Brussels or beyond, THE SKATEROOM needed a push from hub.brussels in the following areas:
Financially:
- Our experts at hub.info informed Charles-Antoine about all available relief measures available in the Region.
Internationally:
- THE SKATEROOM participated in our international business trips to present their project and make contacts. Mainly in the United States.
- THE SKATEROOM presented during the state visit to South Africa from 22 to 27 March 2023, a Skateistan project they helped support.
Charles-Antoine Bodson
founder of THE SKATEROOMWe have been using a committed business model to create a positive impact in the world for almost 10 years. Together, art and skateboarding have become a vehicle for change, as evidenced by this school and skatepark project in Johannesburg, a place for growth and education.
All hands on deck
That THE SKATEROOM is a project that is running on wheels, that’s obvious. They are living proof that a company can be both profitable and environmentally and socially sustainable. Moreover, they are one of the first Belgian companies with the prestigious B corp (Benefit corporations) label, awarded to companies that pay special attention to people and the environment.
As for us, we can’t wait to see his next trick.
