About
Canada is entering a new phase of large-scale infrastructure and housing development following the 2025 election of Prime Minister Mark Carney. Central to his economic agenda is the One Canadian Economy Act, introduced in June 2025, which aims to accelerate the construction of housing, hospitals, and strategic infrastructure projects across the country. This ambitious program includes major “nation-building” projects, several of which are located in British Columbia, positioning the province as one of Canada’s fastest-growing construction markets.
British Columbia, and particularly the Vancouver region, is currently experiencing a strong push to modernize aging infrastructure and address a longstanding housing shortage. Over the past three decades, limited construction approvals and regulatory barriers slowed development, creating significant demand for new residential, healthcare, and infrastructure projects. Today, both federal and provincial governments are actively removing these obstacles, creating a favourable environment for international collaboration and investment.
European companies are particularly well positioned to contribute to this transformation. Europe has developed advanced expertise in sustainable construction, circular economy design, low-carbon materials, and energy-efficient building techniques — areas where Canadian stakeholders are increasingly seeking innovation and specialized know-how. In addition, the Mutual Recognition Agreement between Canada and the European Union facilitates professional mobility, allowing European architects and engineering expertise to integrate more easily into the local market.
At the same time, Canadian companies are diversifying international partnerships and supply chains, creating new opportunities for collaboration with European businesses known for stability, quality, and innovation.
In this context, Vancouver offers a strategic entry point into Western Canada’s rapidly expanding construction, infrastructure, engineering, and energy sectors, making it a highly relevant destination for companies seeking to explore new business opportunities and partnerships.
