Economic mission to Mexico: From export to nearshoring

1315/10/25

Would you like to grow your presence in the North American market? Are you targeting strategic industrial partners or looking to understand the dynamics of nearshoring in Mexico? Join our multi-sectoral economic mission to Tijuana and Monterrey in mid-October.

About

hub.brussels, FIT and AWEX are organising a multi-sectoral economic mission to northern Mexico from 13 to 15 October 2025, with two key stops: Tijuana (13 October) and Monterrey (14-15 October).

This mission has been structured in three complementary sections, tailored to the new realities in the North American business landscape:

  1. Targeted B2B meetings for companies operating in industrial services, a sector with a strong presence in this industrial region of Mexico;
  2. A strategic presentation of nearshoring processes, which represent a key industrial relocation lever for companies serving the US market;
  3. Traditional multi-sectoral B2B meetings for companies interested in the Baja California and Nuevo León markets.

Why Mexico, and why now?

Mexico is currently one of the few countries in the world relatively unaffected by the new US tariffs, making it a strategic alternative to directly exporting to the United States.

Thanks to:

  • Its geographical proximity to the USA;
  • Its USMCA free trade agreement with the United States and Canada;
  • The rise of industrial nearshoring;
  • And a growing domestic market (+61% increase in Walloon exports between 2019 and 2024),

… Mexico represents an essential growth platform for Walloon companies keen to establish a long-term presence on the North American continent.

Two cities, two driving forces of the economy

Tijuana, located on the Californian border, is positioned as a technology manufacturing hub (MedTech, electronics, logistics, etc.) with direct access to the US market. Several Belgian companies have set up operations here.

Monterrey, Mexico’s industrial capital, is a major hub of innovation and production, home to major corporations, leading universities and modern industries.
