820 €(excluding VAT)for a fitted out stand of 6m² ((bear in mind that the cost per m² for an unfurnished stand is usually US$774), including basic furniture, Wi-Fi connection and catering (sandwiches and drinks). You will also be featured in a brochure showing all the Belgian exhibitors and you can take advantage of a shared exhibition space.

*Please note, any additional m² (optional and depending on availability) is billed at €300 (excluding VAT).

We are also researching a less expensive group transportation option for your promotional materials and exhibition equipment.

We can also give you the option of taking part in a shared space to allow you to get a taster of the Arab Health event for a cost of €400 (excluding VAT). This option enables you to benefit from the visibility and services of the Belgian stand, offering you a counter featuring your logo and an area for a panel presenting your company as well as a shared exhibition space for organising meetings. This is the most inexpensive option which requires the least commitment, enabling you to take part in a visible and effective way in the most important medical event in the Middle East!

Additional costs:

  • Administration costs: US$275 (including compulsory exhibition insurance);
  • Advertising costs to be featured in the catalogue, online listings, listing on the mobile app and automatic membership to the Omnia journal The Global Medical Directory: US$275;
  • The shipping of your promotional materials;
  • Any additional furniture (furniture not included in the offer of the stand installer selected to build the Belgian pavilion);
  • Travel (airfare and local), lodging and food expenses;
  • The compulsory presence of a representative of each participating company during the entire show.

The medical sector in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council

The healthcare sector is the second largest market in the region occupied by the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

According to the GCC Healthcare Industry Overview, upwards of 700 projects in the sector are currently at varying stages of development in the Gulf countries, amounting to a total value of $60.9bn. The offer of medical services is therefore constantly growing, and will continue to do so in the years to come.

The UAE are also striving to become the new global hub for health tourism in the Middle East. Dubai aims to become the flagship destination for medical tourism – a sector which is currently booming: Dubai welcomed close to 327,000 health tourists in 2016. This number is predicted to rise to 500,000 visitors by 2020.

This is clearly demonstrated by the duty-free zones in Dubai and Sharjah which are entirely dedicated to healthcare (Dubai Science Park, Dubai Healthcare City, etc.) and hospital projects in Abu Dhabi. There are already around 20,000 beds available in the UAE, with around 100 hospitals mostly located in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

However, local medical production is currently limited to consumables (gloves, syringes, injectable solutions and other disposable plastic equipment) and lightweight hospital equipment (medical furniture). For all other medical sectors (medical devices, heavy equipment, specific healthcare products), significant import flows are still expected. This is the direct consequence of major investment in the private and public sectors.

Requirements in terms of heavy equipment, which local production is unable to meet, are connected to the setting up of new healthcare establishments and the replacement of used stock. Indeed, the average lifespan of such equipment in the UAE is between five and seven years.

The requirements of the UAE lie in the design and administration of healthcare establishments, medical provisions, equipment (especially for the treatment of cardio-vascular illnesses), management and supply systems, and the processing of repayment data.

The pharmaceuticals market in the UAE is among the most advanced in the Middle East, with significant healthcare infrastructure and the highest per head spending on medicines in the Middle East. Potential for growth is particularly significant in this sector, even though local production is developing.

Normal healthcare spending in the GCC countries is set to reach $104.6bn by 2022. In order to meet this demand, it has been estimated that the GCC countries must increase the number of beds available to around 120,000 by 2022. The main markets remain Saudi Arabia (7,500 extra beds) and the UAE (2,000).

It is worth highlighting some key figures showing the development of the sector in Dubai:

  • It has been announced that no less than 12 new private hospitals will be opened in Dubai by 2020 by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), providing an additional 875 beds.
  • The current offer in the healthcare sector is made up of 3,018 private establishments, including hospitals, specialist medical centres, pharmacies and other services.
  • No less than 36,055 licensed doctors are currently practising in the private medical sector.

If you are considering setting up in the region, it is advisable to find a local partner and enlist an experienced local legal advisor to help you take the right decisions. Finding a local partner is the most important and most challenging step when attempting to get a foothold in the market.
