hub.brussels in New York for the Circular City Week

New York never sleeps. Neither do its ideas! Especially when it comes to sustainability, with the megacity positioning itself at the forefront of urban sustainability, including through its OneNYC strategy. It is therefore not surprising that Circular City Week will be held there from 2 to 8 May 2022. Among the stakeholders of this collaborative festival is the hub.brussels team in New York, which will be taking this opportunity to highlight the involvement of Brussels in circularity.

New York’s Circular City Week is nothing less than the largest circular economy festival in the United States. Open and free of charge, it consists of a series of events and activities organised by a wide range of local and global partners.

In 2021, the event brought together more than 8,800 people, with the combined efforts of 245 organisations, all committed to advancing change and drawing attention to best practices and innovative initiatives.

This year, hub.brussels will also taking part in the festivities, in order to show what Brussels has to offer in terms of the circular economy.

The Brussels vision of the circular economy in 4 theme-based sessions

From 3 to 6 May, hub.brussels will offer visitors four theme-based sessions which will shed light on what is already being done in the capital of Europe in terms of the circular economy.

Circularity and green mobility

Walking, cycling, public transport, shared light electric vehicles: sustainable mobility promotes travel through integrated, socially inclusive and environmentally friendly options without relying on private vehicles. Through this session, hub.brussels will present the green alternatives adopted in Brussels.

Circularity in the textile industry

The textile industry, known for its mass consumption, is a sector which has the particular potential to make a substantial improvement to overall sustainability and global well-being if it rethinks its consumption. From design, with biodegradable or recycled materials, to production with resource efficiency and after-market reuse, hub.brussels will present the frameworks which its companies have put in place in order to move towards a fully circular textile industry.

The built-up environment, circular and regenerative

What if, rather than reducing environmental damage, we integrated ecological systems as a basis for design and, ultimately, environmental regeneration? There is no shortage of companies defending this business model in Brussels and it will serve as an inspiration for New York!

Circularity in the food industry

How can we integrate urban agriculture and develop food systems which are resilient to climate change with the problem of food waste? Through this session, Brussels will show how it is working to meet the challenge of a circular food industry, from planting a seed to reusing food waste.
